GirlGuiding in New Zealand are part of a family of about
eight million GirlGuiding and Girl Scouts! Wow, talk about popular! There are
144 countries in the World Association of GirlGuiding and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS)
and women round the world worked with Robert Baden Powell, the man who started
the organisation, to adapt things to local conditions and cultures around the
world.
All girls who join Guides become part of this international
sisterhood. Its like a big club for girls only. When Girl Guides and Girl
Scouts from throughout the world meet up, they see each other as similar, with
lots of things in common. We share similar Promise, Laws, symbols, as well as
the same belief in community awareness and action. Its all about helping
ourselves and others grow into great people of the future. WAGGGS
is the largest youth organisation for girls and young women today. For
a full list of member countries go to: WAGGGSThe

a passport to fun and adventure, as you meet new people and see new places. The
events page of the website has invitations to international events camps,
workshops and jamborees. Experience a camp in Australia, time at Sangam in India,

you are travelling with your family, as part of a Guiding group or as an individual.
An international introduction card is available for all New Zealand guiding
people who travel overseas. This card will put you in touch with GirlGuiding in the
countries you visit. People who have travelled are happy to visit your unit and
share their experiences. You may get the chance to host a visitor from overseas

If you have been lucky enough to have the chance to travel through
GirlGuiding we would love to display snippets of overseas adventures and photos on
our site for others to enjoy. Please send to international@girlguidingnz.org.nz

To
show we are all part of one great worldwide organisation, we share some special
signs, symbols and a motto.
- This is the same design as the World Badge and may be flown by members of WAGGGS
- The World Badge may
be worn by any member of WAGGGS
- All
Brownies and Guides try to do things to help other people without being asked.
- The Brownie and Guide Motto is Be Prepared. - 22 February, the birthday of both Lord and Lady Baden-Powell,
when members of the GirlGuiding family think especially of their sister Guides around
the world.
- When members
of the GirlGuiding and Scout family shake hands in a special way.
- Three fingers of the
right hand held straight, the little finger bent with the thumb touching. The
three fingers mean the three parts of the Promise.
The
Mutual Aid Scheme has supports many community development projects e.g. health,
literacy, environment, vocational skills, training and many others. It also helps
many associations with the purchase of vital equipment, employment of fulltime
trainers, training of leaders and the publication of handbooks and manuals, all
essential for the development of GirlGuiding / Girl Scouting. Your unit
may wish to raise money for Mutual Aid, which assists with specific projects in
WAGGGS member countries, GirlGuiding New Zealand regularly selects a Mutual Aid project
to support.
